See what
everyone is saying about the
product:
It is almost 100%
sure I will purchase it as it is the
most simple and intuitive backup
software I have found. Backups and
restores are amazingly simple. (Narcis,
Spanish)
I recently
downloaded Auto backup to try it.
The interface is one of the best and
the program is very easy to use.
I've tried Auto
Backup 2.1 and I really like it,
it's great!
You have a nice
product. I like to built-in, hassle
free, ftp upload capability. (Bob
M.)
I do not feel I
need to praise Auto Backup since the
features speak about it well enough.
I want to point out, however, that I
did receive the most effective and
honest help on five different
occasions when I had questions,
problems or even requests of
including new features into the
program for my purpose. Features of
the program were changed or created
upon my request expediently. This
level of customer service is the
first I experienced in my many years
of using any shareware. (Joe, Sooke,
B.C., Canada)

Instructions:
1. To setup a new backup task,
select the "New" button from the
main window and give the task a name
("My Documents" for example) or you
can leave it at the default value.
2. Select the files that you want to
include in the backup task under the
"Source" tab. You can drill down in the
directory by clicking on the + sign.
3. Under the "Archive" tab you can
select a Prefix for the filename that is appended
to your backup files or leave in the default value.
4. Check the FTP server radio button under the Archive tab.
Then you will need to select the "FTP
Setup" button under the "Archive"
tab and enter your username (your
email address) and password in the
Authorization section near the middle
of this window. No other settings
need to be set in here so you can
select OK to accept your changes.
5. You can set a backup schedule
under the "Schedule" tab or leave the
default settings if you plan to run
backups manually.
6. Under the "Options" tab you can
change the compression level in the General
options section and modify backup settings.
Select the compression level from the drop down menu
. The higher compression level, the longer the backup will
take but it will use less disk space.
Backup Mode- You can choose a Full Backup and all
of your selected files will be backed up each time a backup runs,
or you may choose to only backup files that have changed since the
last backup by selecting Incremental or Differential.
By default your data is encrypted
using your FTP password, to change
this to be a separate password you
will need to select the "Encryption data box"
enter in a Secret Key (password only you will know) and confirm.
If you do not select this option
your backup archive will not be password
protected.
7. You can add a comment under the
"Comment" tab to your task. This is
just a plain text description of
your backup so that you can know
what all it includes.
8. At this point you can select "Apply"
in the New Backup Task window and
this task will be added to your list
of "Backup Tasks".
9. If you scheduled a time for the
task to run you can minimize the
auto backup client and the task will
run at it's scheduled times (by
default if Auto Backup is minimized
it will run each task at Midnight).
If you want to backup the files at
this time simply select the task you
want to run and click the "Backup"
button on the right of the main
window.
You can cancel tasks while they are
running by hitting cancel on the
task progress screen or stop on the
main window.
10. To do a restore of a file or
file set you simply select the task
that included the file(s) you want
to restore, and click the "Restore"
button to the right of the tasks.
11. Your FTP server settings will
already be there for that task so
you will just need to select
"Browse" under the "FTP Server"
portion of the Restore main window.
12. From there browse to your "my_vault"
folder to see your available
archives (.hbk files). For example:
MyDocuments-20040505-122045.hbk. The
default file format saves the file
with a date and timestamp so you can
easily determine which archive to
restore.
13. After you have selected the
appropriate archive click next on
the Restore main window and the
archive will be downloaded to your
PC. From there you will be prompted
for your password, which will be
your FTP access password by default.
Hint: If you configured your task
with a comment you can also view the
comment from this screen.
14. Click Next to get a list of the
files included in the archive and
select the files you need to
restore.
15. Select Next and you will be
given the option to restore to the
"Original Folder" or to a new
location. From there select
"Restore" and the selected file(s)
will be restored to the specified
locations.
